Backyard Mars Garden Temperature Test
Mars Garden Temperature Test - Click to see the BIG Version

This run was done over the course of two days, prior to the installation of insulation and with no heat mass storage in place. The Onset 4-Channel external Hobo© data logger was used with four temperature probes. One was set outside of the BYMG for an ambient control temperature. The remaining three were located at roof level, middle and on the floor of the BYMG. Both days were clear & cold. Data interval was 10 minutes. For the last night, two lights were programmed to come on at three different times for 1 hour, 30 minutes and 15 minutes respectively. Only the roof probe, (located next to one of the lights) showed any minimal action.

Recycling Vent - Various Views

Above are views of the recirculation venting. The intake is in the top center of the BYMG, embedded within the North wall. A small fan is enclosed to facilitate air motion. The outflow is located at floor level. The idea is to run the fan by timer so that it comes on periodically during the day to force warm top air down to ground level, where it can interact with mass storage, such as water filled containers. During the night, the stored heat will re-radiate back into the space to keep the temperature stable.
