Watch for Your Copy of Windows on Mars
A copy of the National Endowment for the Arts-produced Windows on Mars will be mailed to every school in the nation in March 2000, through the generous support of the United States Postal Service. Make sure you alert your school office and have them look for the video and accompanying Teachers' Guide. Windows on Mars can also be seen on NASA TV. For a schedule and more information on NASA TV, visit the Education file at http://nasa.gov/ntv. A Windows on Mars Teachers' Guide can be viewed here on the The Mars Society Mars Society EduPortal.
Mars Society EduPortal Q&A with the Experts
Starting on Wednesday, March 1, 2000, Mars Society EduPortal participants will have an opportunity to pose questions about their projects and about building a community on Mars in the year 2030 to artists and scientists from the Windows on Mars video. Artists and scientists will be available to address specific issues relating to projects. The Q&A will continue for the next five months. The first expert will be Windows on Mars anchor and former manager of the JPL Mars Pathfinder Mission, Donna Shirley. She will be available for questions until March 18, 2000. Following Ms. Shirley will be musician Craig Woodson, who will be answering questions March 18 through April 4.
Q&A Logistics
Questions will be collected on Fridays and the answers will be posted on Tuesday of the following week. Donna Shirley
The first expert in the Q&A series will be former JPL Pathfinder mission manager, and Windows on Mars anchor Donna Shirley (for a complete bio, visit http://www.mars2030.com/shirley.html). Donna Shirley will be available to answer your questions about space exploration and travel, conditions on Mars, and any other related questions. She is the official spokesperson for the Mars Society EduPortal. Donna joined First Lady Hillary Rodham Clinton in launching the project in January of 1999, at the National Air and Space Museum in Washington, D.C. Since then, Ms. Shirley has continued her support by speaking at events nationwide and by participating in the Windows on Mars educational video. She will be happy to assist you in your project by answering your questions about space travel, engineering, and lessons to be learned throughout the MMP.
Don't forget to post your project in the Mars Millennium Virtual Gallery. All projects submitted to the Virtual Gallery will be loaded on to a microchip and sent to Mars on a future NASA mission. |
